We are back to home school...

One of the great things about fall is that the schools fill up and the parks empty for us homeschoolers! Just kidding. We're hitting the books, just like everyone else.

Here are my choices this autumn for my 10 year old son.

My son LOVES history, and listening while building a mock-up of the story is captivating for him.

We haven't used Saxon for him yet, but it provides more practice, and more variety than the Math-U-See he's used till now.

We actually jumped from level one to level three because it moves at such an excruciatingly slow pace. It's a huge jump, though, to go from copywork to dictation, so I have him do some copywork in this book still.

Surprisingly, my reluctant writer likes grammar! These are quick, easy to digest lessons. His favourite activity is sentence combining. He may make a fine writer yet!

We are reading through the NIV New Testament together, as well as literature selections.
For Science we'll do Nature Study again.

We also use Spelling Workout, and I've bought Wordly Wise to use later in the year.

We bike ride now, swimming lessons start up in October, and downhill and cross-country skiing once the snow arrives.

We are also signed up to learn acrylic painting! I think I'm more excited about this than he.

Our older two are busy with college and career, but me and Mr.G. have our work cut out for us. It's going to be a very good year!

  1. Ah, the dreaded Saxon math book. I remember that thing. ;)

  2. I used to hate Saxon, but they've improved!
And I use the book, I don't let it dictate what we're doing :)

    Thanks for reading!
    Blessings,
    Dee
